Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill visited Richard Challoner School at the end of November, as the PlayStation Schools’ Cup road show continues to visit schools up and down the country.
The launch of this season’s PlayStation Schools’ Cup has helped increase English Schools’ FA tournaments running in secondary schools for both boys and girls teams from ranging abilities. After challenging a couple of Richard Challoner’s pupils to a quick game on FIFA 14 for PlayStation 4, Cahill moved his attentions to the training pitch, as he passed on his football tips to the school’s U-13 Boys B Team. The training session with the Chelsea star helped inspire the home side to a 2-1 PlayStation Schools’ Cup victory against the UCL Academy team. Two days after the event, Gary Cahill was putting his words of wisdom into good practice, scoring the opening goal when Chelsea beat Southampton 3-1.
Gary Cahill explained, “When I was growing up in Sheffield, we did not have tournaments that were as high profile as the PlayStation Schools’ Cup. I would have loved representing my school in a football competition like this. Anything that encourages children of all abilities to enjoy playing football for their school has my full support!”
A special thanks to Gary Cahill and Richard Challoner School for supporting the PlayStation Schools’ Cup road show.
