Lucky students at Oasis Academy Mayfield had the chance to quiz Southampton and England star Ryan Bertrand when he made a surprise visit to support the PlayStation Schools’ Cup. Read on to see their questions and Ryan’s answers:

If you weren’t a footballer what would you do as a career?

I like the idea of being a graphic designer; something like product design is really interesting.

Who is the most difficult player you have ever played against?

Eden Hazard.

Who is the best player you’ve played with?

I’ve played with a lot of great players at club and international level so it’s hard to pick one out.

At Southampton, who would win a 100m race?

Apart from me – obviously! Sadio Mane I think.

Who do you think is the best left back in the world?

I like David Alaba from Bayern Munich.

What was your first car?

Audi A3.

What subjects did you enjoy at school? Apart from PE!

I used to really enjoy science and geography.

What was your best and most important goal?

Probably the one against QPR, it may not have been my best goal but we won 2-1 and it was important.

Who are you best friends in football?

Quite a few actually but when I was 16 and first joined Chelsea I stayed in digs with Scott Sinclair.

Are you good at any other sports other than football?

Table tennis and actual tennis too.

What fixture do you look forward to the most?

Any of the big teams really – it’s always nice to test yourself.

What has been your most memorable game for Southampton and why?

Last season when we beat Sunderland, I lost count of the score!

When you are not playing football what do you like to do to relax?

Spend time with my daughters.

Who is the funniest person in the dressing room?

I think I’m in the mix, me or Victor Wanyama I reckon.

Do you have any rituals before a match?

Yeah I have the same routine. Pretty much the same breakfast, same lunch etc. If something is different it messes with my head a bit!

What music do you listen to before a match?

Bit of hip-hop, normally some Drake. It gets me motivated.

What has been the greatest highlight of your career?

Playing in the Champions League final and winning it with Chelsea.
