Manchester United star Luke Shaw inspired pupils at Sale-based Ashton on Mersey School as he paid a visit for the latest PlayStation Schools’ Cup Tie of the Round.
Luke supported a Q&A with the school’s Under 15 football team and also took part in their pre-match warm-up ahead of the side’s ESFA Under 15 PlayStation Schools’ Cup clash against St Peter’s RC High School.
The 19-year-old’s presence certainly had the desired effect as Ashton on Mersey ran out 4-2 winners in an exciting match between two of the top teams in the North West.
Luke commented: “I had a great time supporting the PlayStation Schools’ Cup and getting behind this fantastic grassroots initiative. There are some incredibly talented players in schools’ football and I’m glad I could do my bit before their match and speak to some of the players. To top the day off I also got to play on the FIFA 15 against a pupil, it doesn’t get better than that!”
The school’s gymnasium was transformed into a gaming paradise for the day as pupils got their chance to play on the latest PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita games. There was also the chance for them to sharpen their football skills with professional coaches provided on the day by the English Schools’ FA.
The surprises didn’t stop there as Luke brought along friend and team-mate Andreas Pereira to join him on the day too!
We would like to extend a huge thanks to Ashton on Mersey School for their support and hospitality which helped provide both a fun and successful day all round!
